Hi to all registered and prospective C/M workshop participants!
As the workshop "circle" evolves I think it would be great if we could all share some info about yourself - where you live, photographic interests/influences/styles, formats/medium/film vs digital, travel experience and what you're expectations of the workshop are.
We'll have some pre-trip meetings later this summer but after conversing with Joe - who lives in Chicago - I'm curious as to who our fellow workshoppers are.
Who wants to go first?

Workshop Presentation - Wednesday, June 23, 7:00PM - Viewpoint Gallery We'll discuss the itinerary and answer questions about this exciting workshop. I'll show work from several of the locations in Cambodia and Myanmar and also share a few selections from my latest projects in Bhutan, Laos and Easter Island. I hope all of you can make it!
Rick,
Since I live in Chicago, I will not be able to attend the 23rd mtg. This info. may not be of any value, but in case it is, I will mention it. I have traveled to Bangkok 3 different times, the last being last Dec. The last two times we flew on EVA Air. The advantage is for a few hundred dollars more you can get a seat that falls somewhere between coach and business. The seats recline more and are quite a bit more comfortable. The newer seats are the kind where the entire seat slides forward, the back reclines and the leg portion rises. I liked the older style better, but these are not bad. For the many hours airborne, we found it worth the extra money and no complaints compared to others who chose other airlines. Second, we know (have stayed 2 times) at a Bangkok hotel that is reasonable) the last two times. We learned of it from a Thai native who travels to Bangkok often. It is about a 25 - 30 min. taxi ride to the airport. If anyone wants more info. I can provide it, since we need to make arrangements for the last night in Bangkok.
I am looking forward to the trip.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info re EVA! Comfort is always welcomed during those long haul grinds. I'm not sure what carrier everyone will be using but the topic will be discussed.
Let us know what hotel you use in BKK. The one that we came up for our inbound flight (Hometel) is near Suvanabhumi airport - nothing fancy but they're convenient and provide free airport transfers. Perhaps there will be some who will extend before or after the workshop and would like recommendations for accommodations in the city center.
Too bad you can't make the 6/23 meeting but we'll have additional meetings later this summer for participants only. Hopefully you'll be able to attend one either in person or maybe via a conference call {?}. And let me know if you're planning a West Coast visit and I'll try to plan the meeting around your schedule. You're knowledgeable re SE Asia travel, weather, customs, etc so you'll be fine.
Thanks again and we're looking forward to meeting you in person!
Rick
Rick,
The hotel is the Grand Tower Inn, Sukhumvit 55, off of Newphetburi Rd. Phone is 02 714 2001 & 02 259 0380 and fax 02 381 1030-1. Web site is grandtowerinn.com. This hotel has been used by a native thai who lives in the U.S. but does tours in her native land. She has used it for quite a few years. Guests get breakfast, american or thai foods and the taxi to the airport is quite reasonable.
