Artist's Bio
Judith Monroe has been handcoloring photographs for more than twenty years, creating vibrant one-of-a-kind images. As a photography student in college, Judith yearned for the colors she remembered and felt, not the colors reproduced by film and photographic papers. So she embarked on a journey of independent study, to learn the techniques of the nearly-lost art of handcoloring. Over the years, handcoloring has seen a revival and Judith continues to explore and experiment with various media to communicate her own personal visions.
Judith favors vintage cameras and hand printing in a traditional darkroom to produce her limited edition prints. Her unique creative process has been featured on national television and in Sacramento Magazine. Her work has been published as a greeting card by Recycled Paper Greetings, and she has had several images published in The Best of Photography Annual. Her photographs have sold in the Crocker Art Museum’s Annual Art Auction, as well as at various galleries and art festivals. Judith’s original works are included in public and private collections throughout U.S. |
