Viewpoint Relocation Project

At 4:45 p.m., on Friday, February 1, I had the distinct honor and pleasure of signing a 5-year lease making 2015 J Street the new home of the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center. The moment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Viewpoint's history, one that will surely energize and encourage us to work even harder to provide educational and cultural opportunities for photographers, the Sacramento art community, and the general public. The landlord returned their signed copy on February 7, so it's now official!

One of the many advantages this space has to offer is that it is already set up for exhibiting art. This will save us thousands of dollars that would otherwise need to be spent on tenant improvements. We'll have more space overall than at our current location, some of which will be used to relieve cramped office and storage space our volunteers contend with today.

We still have lots of work to do, items to purchase, and ways for you to participate and contribute.

  • Your participation as a volunteer is encouraged and welcome. We'll be publishing a new "volunteer" section on the web site very soon.
  • We have an immediate need for a Volunteer Coordinator. If you are interested, please reply to this email or click here to email the Executive Director, Gene Kennedy.
  • A cash donation form is available here.
  • In the coming weeks we'll publish a list of specific "mini-fund drives" where you can target a donation to a special need, such as specific furnishings and equipment that we need to acquire.

A special thank you goes out to our Relocation Committee (Judy Yemma - Chair, Ron Yemma, David L. Robertson, David Dawson and Dale Crandall-Bear) for the countless hours that they spent researching and scouting the potential sites, working the numbers, and negotiating our new lease. Their service to the organization is a shining example of how our members can, and often do, work together through volunteerism to accomplish great things!

But enough talk... you probably want to see some pictures of the new site. Our thanks to David Dawson for taking these images.

We will open the doors in June and our Grand Opening will be a very special event that we hope all of Sacramento will take note of. Watch your email and newsletters for announcements and dates.

I look forward to seeing you all there in June.

President
