Optimizing Your Images for Printing

Registration is closed for this event
Charles Cramer will present an interactive lecture and demonstration. This workshop will give you the tools to go beyond your film or digital camera file, and spur your imagination to create stronger interpretations of your images.

This workshop answers these common questions:

In Lightroom (and/or Adobe Camera RAW in Photoshop):

  • If I use LIghtroom, do I need Photoshop?
  • What Lightroom can and cannot do.
  • Which image corrections do I perform in Lightroom, and which image corrections do I perform in Photoshop?
  • Optimizing detail in the problem area of both shadows and highlights.

In Photoshop:

  • Effective techniques for using Photoshop
  • Working with very dark or very light images.
  • "Orchestrating" the light.
  • Techniques to make your prints "glow".

For those who can bring laptop computers with Photoshop (and optionally Lightroom) installed, example files will be distributed so participants can follow along.  For those who do not have laptops, the workshop also works well as a lecture and demonstration.

The schedule: 9:00am to 3:00pm, with an hour lunch break.

Charles Cramer has been photographing and making prints for 30 years. In 1997, he started scanning his original 4x5 inch transparencies at very high resolution and digitally applying the photographic techniques he used in dye transfer printing. He has taught digital imaging for the Ansel Adams Gallery Workshops, Palm Beach Workshops, Anderson Ranch Workshops, the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging, the Luminous Landscape workshops, and others. He was also fortunate to have the great Bill Atkinson co-instruct with him at many of these workshops. Charles Cramer’s landscape work has been published by National Geographic Books, Sierra Club, and the Yosemite Association. He has been profiled in PhotoTechniques, PhotoVision, Outdoor Photography (UK), and View Camera Magazines. He is also included in the book “Landscape: The World’s Top Photographers”.
