About Henry Paine:
Many years ago, Henry was entranced by the work of the brilliant photographers Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Brett Weston and Don Worth. They inspired him to follow his own dream of becoming the best photographer he could be. He taught himself the Zone System technique that was first developed by Adams and was fortunate enough to participate in a couple of Adams’ workshops before he passed away in 1984.
For more than 40 years, Paine used 5x7in and 6x9cm film cameras, but he recently switched to a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera. Using Adobe Photoshop, he has scanned his entire archive of film negatives into digital files on his Apple iMac desktop computer and now prints on an Epson 3880 printer using monochromatic pigment inks. Believe it or not, the photographs Henry produces digitally look better to him than the labor-intensive silver-gelatin prints slaved over in the darkroom, whether they started out as film negatives or as digital images. Henry’s work is exclusively black and white. You can see examples of his photography on his website, HenryPaine.com.
