Digital Fine Art Printing

Registration is closed for this event
By the end of this workshop, you should be comfortable in printing your own images and understanding why certain choices need to be made in order to have the image on your monitor match the print.

  • The workshop will be devoted to discussing what is required to create a fine art print.  This discussion is divided between the technical (color management) and the aesthetic (artistic) components.
  • There will be a discussion of color spaces (sRGB/Adobe RGB/ProPhoto RGB), rendering intents (Relative Colormetric/Perceptual), and profiling (monitor/printer).
  • By having a basic understanding of these issues, you will be better able to make printing decisions or recognize problems on your own.
  • This workshop will also include instruction for soft proofing in Lightroom and Photoshop, input/output/creative sharpening, and localized contrast adjustments.
  • Information will also be provided on paper choice (matte vs. glossy, warm vs. cold, optical brightening agents).

This 3-hour workshop is limited to 16 lucky participants. Register Now!

Your Instructor: David L. Robertson:

I have been interested in photography since college, where I learned how to develop my own negatives and to print black and white images.  My photographs tend to reflect strong graphical elements and simplicity: regardless of subject matter. They have been described by NYC photographer and friend, Jay Maisel, as reflecting solitude, without loneliness. I have previously taught more than a dozen workshops on Lightroom and Photoshop at Viewpoint and at various photography groups in the Sacramento region. I have been a Lightroom instructor for the Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures in New Mexico, Maine, California, and Colorado. I have also had several solo and group exhibits of my photographs, including a solo exhibit at the Pence Gallery in Davis (January 2008), a group exhibit at Viewpoint (May 2009), a two-person exhibit in Roseville (May 2010) and another two-person exhibit at for the Grants Pass Museum of Art in Oregon (October 2011).
