A History of Night Photography

Tim Baskerville, Director of The Nocturnes, brings new light on some of the seldom seen innovators/pioneers of the genre—as well as current practitioners of Night Photography in the digital era.

The practice of photographing at night did not begin with DSLRs and the phenomenon of Flickr.  From the very beginnings of photography, adventurous souls have overcome numerous technical obstacles, producing haunting imagery that evoked the almost primordial draw of the nocturne. As night photographers find themselves in another period of enormous technical change, it is important to investigate, study, and understand the long History of night photography.

In this workshop we travel from Daguerreotype to digital, in a decade-by-decade survey of night photography and the technological advances that made it ever more possible and popular in the modern psyche.

This three-hour course includes detailed PowerPoint presentations, lecture handouts, and discussion of current and historical  sources non night photography.

This intensive workshop is limited to 16 lucky participants. Register today!
