Alternative Point of View: The Photography of Judy Yemma

Judy Yemma works with historical photographic processes, such as Platinum/Palladium, Cyanotype and VanDyke, using hand-applied techniques that connect her to her roots as a painter. Her final prints become unique with some being truly one of a kind. She is particularly attracted to curved lines and shapes, to the restful and serene, to the emotion of an image, and to the potential of putting her own twist on an image.

Judy is an award-winning fine art photographer living in Northern California. Her credits include receiving the First Place – Photography award in the 2007 KVIE juried art auction and being featured in the Special Collections for the 2008 auction.

The visual arts have always been part of Judy Yemma's life. She credits her mother, who was an accomplished painter and sculptor, with opening her eyes and her mind to seeing and thinking in creative ways. Judy chose to continue her creative exploration through college, earning a degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting and ceramics.

Photography is now her medium of choice. For her, image capture is a celebration of artistic potential. She is particularly attracted to curved lines and shapes, to the restful and serene, to the emotion of an image, and to the potential of putting her own twist on an image. The subjects in her images, like her interests, are varied but lean strongly to the organic. She finds inspiration in both simple and complex compositions — sometimes manipulating these compositions, or not.

Working with historical photographic processes, such as Platinum/Palladium, Cyanotype and VanDyke, allows Judy to use hand-applied techniques that connect her to her roots as a painter. The final prints become unique with some being truly one of a kind.
