"And Counting ...", The Photographs of Nigel Poor

Nigel Poor is a conceptual photographer whose projects often include humble materials that go unnoticed or unappreciated. Through careful collection, systematic observation, painstaking control and counting, Poor explores the commonplace with extraordinary attention to detail. This solo exhibit features several of her projects shown together for the first time.

Whether her attention is 287 Flies or 4,000 fingerprints, Poor’s work increases awareness and connections. Her work is structured, orderly, exacting, and surprising. Words often add complexity and depth to her photographs and installations. “Poor’s signature ability,” said critic Jonathan Binstock, “is to make virtually anything seem beautiful.”

Nigel Poor is Associate Professor of Photography at California State University, Sacramento. See and listen to some of her work at her website, www.nigelpoor.com.
